Sunday, March 30, 2025 • 1 Nisan 5785
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM2420 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, 97232Join Board Member Angel Ya’el and other trans members of the Shir Tikvah community to learn practical ways for Jews to support transgender people in honor of Trans Month of Visibility and Rosh Hodesh Nisan! There will be a short talk, followed by a Q&A with our panelists where participants can learn directly from people with lived experience as both Jewish community leaders and trans people. All those with questions are welcome, with our goal being to increase awareness within our community. Facilitator: Angel Yael Murauskas-McElroy (they), in addition to serving as CST Board Treasurer, has over a decade of experience in grassroots community organizing and education. In a professional context, they have facilitated panels on LGBTQ+ inclusion for thousands of Portland State University students and staff, with a focus on gender, sexuality, race, and interlocking systems of oppression. They serve regularly as Queer Torah Study facilitator, and believe that Jewish learning can change the world. Emma Lugo (she) is President Emeritus of CST and co-host of Transpositive PDX on KBOO radio, and has a long herstory as an organizer, rabble rouser, and trouble maker. She is passionate about studying Torah, which she does regularly with the women of Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, and helped build the foundation for our congregational Queer Torah Study. Cat Bee (she) is an activist, scholar, and aspiring mystic with extensive experience as a Jewish educator. She has led workshops at CST on Mussar, Jewish ethics, and embracing the Other (and The Acher). Previous experience with organizing includes PDX General Defense Committee, a now-retired queer feminist organization dedicated to supporting those targeted by law enforcement. Matt Ferguson (he) serves our community as Gabbai and scribe in addition to his work as a writer, philosopher, and academic. He has assisted in facilitating CST discussion groups on Trans Jewish Ethics at CST, and was a key organizer in founding Segulah, a queer-inclusive Talmud intensive via Tisch. Apart from his work at CST, he is an avid rugby player and plays with a local gay rugby team."
